100% Unique

EasyRams is the only UK ram producer selling 100% pure New Zealand Suffolk and Sufftex rams.

Family business

This family business is run by Robyn and Philippa Hulme with the help of our two sons Nik and James and daughter Lucy. As a family we have been selling Suffolk rams for 60 years and involving 3 generations. We are confident that our EasyRams Genetics and Philosophy combine the best of a conscientious family run business with the technical skills and knowledge of a larger commercial organisation.

Boomerang - returning Suffolk genetics 60 years on

All NZ Suffolk sheep originated from the UK with imports taking place up till 1952. For the next 60 years the sheep were selected for their ease of management and ability to grow off an all grass diet.

The removal of all subsidies some 25 years ago intensified the selection processes. Intensive use of recording allowed output to increase whilst severe culling for traits requiring extra labour and its associated costs mean that our New Zealand sourced Suffolks and Sufftexes are able to provide our clients with the means to reduce their costs, particularly those associated with labour and increase their output off a forage based system.

The mantra “Work smarter not harder” applies to farming as much as to big business. Sheep farmers need to continue to reduce costs and the biggest cost of all sheep enterprises is labour – either hired labour or your own.

Origins

Our floc, EasyRams was established in summer 2006 with the purchase from New Zealand of 60 frozen NZ Suffolk embryos. These were implanted in the autumn with the result that 30 lambs were born in the spring of 2007.

These embryos were all purchased from

Bruce Rapleys Goldstream flock which has a history of producing not only high value stud sheep but, more significantly, sheep with very high performance figures on the Suffolk analysis within SIL.
Further embryos were purchased from Goldstream in 2007 and from two unrelated flocks in 2008 since which time changes to the EU import protocols have stopped further embryo or semen imports from NZ taking place.
